The camp was a dream of Adam Petty, a young, fourth-generation racecar driver who, between racing events, took an interest in visiting and helping children in pediatric hospitals. He dreamed of creating a special place like Victory Junction where they could go for fun and play and relax like other kids. When Adam died tragically at age 19 in a racecar accident, his family committed to making his dream, which he had already begun to plan even at his young age, a reality. They donated the land, 84 acres in Randleman, North Carolina, and they and the NASCAR community, with help from corporations, foundations and individual donors, raised the funds through a capital campaign to build the camp, which opened to its first campers in 2004.

The camp is built around a NASCAR theme, with model cars, real cars, bright colors and activities, like zip lining, archery, bowling, fishing and swimming, tailored for the types of challenges these children endure. The campus even includes a stable of horses and a horseback riding facility and many other farm animals for the children to interact with. Since opening, it has provided 115,000 experiences through summer and family weekend camps and day camps for children ages 6 to 16 and their families, from all 50 states and around the world.

Each year, Arch MI employees based in the Greensboro area volunteer at the camp for cleanup days and other projects around the camp.
